Traditional Acupuncture
Traditional acupuncture is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). A long established system of healthcare in China and the Far East. In current day China it is fully integrated with western medicine within hospitals and medical clinics thus broadening and empowering patient choice.
Integrated medicine is the coming together of the best of conventional (western medicine) and complementary treatments for improving patients quality of life.
Here in the UK, the landscape of healthcare is changing as peoples needs call for a more patient centred service of integrated medicine. Acupuncture has a key role within the evolution of an integrative healthcare system. It offers safe and effective treatments for many common health conditions. Crucially, with an understanding of health and illness that has developed over 2000 years, traditional acupuncture treatment is a reliable and tangible solution to current over prescribing - commonly referred to as the 'opioid crisis'.
A growing body of clinical evidence is confirming its efficacy and an increasing number of people are recognising and benefitting from treatment. The NHS National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines acknowledges acupuncture as an effective treatment in certain conditions and recommends it as a first line of treatment in some instances. Whilst acupuncture is not freely available on the NHS an increasing number of traditional acupuncturists are establishing relationships/lines of communication with local GPs in regard to individual patients under their care.
Whilst traditional acupuncture is a clinical medicine it has a dimension and depth of understanding that is deeply rooted in its ancient tradition of understanding the body from observations of the natural world and how we resonate with that in terms of our bodily rhythms. It's focus in on the person rather than the condition. It is both a science and an art, giving acupuncturists a great deal of scope in treating each and every individual with their unique complexities.
Against this background more people are also seeking natural ways to achieve best health and wellbeing. There is a growing awareness of how contemporary living can profoundly imbalance our bodies. Care for ourselves is an extension of care for the environment and vice-versa. Traditional acupuncture is a bridge to restoring equilibrium both within and without for those choosing to live more consciously; promoting a happier healthier lifestyle.

Treatment and benefits of Traditional Acupuncture
Traditional acupuncture is a holistic therapy and as such it does not seperate the emotional from the physical. In other words it treats physical, mental-emotional, psychological functions, recognising the body as an integrated whole.
This differs from some other healthcare practitioners that incorporate certain acupuncture techniques within their own modality (such as those treating musculo-skeletal conditions). When seeking out acupuncture treatment it is important to understand this distinction.
Acupuncture works with the bodies innate ability to heal itself thus making it one of the safest medical treatments available.
Due to regulations from the Advertising Standards Authority it is not permitted to mention here any specific conditions that acupuncture can treat. If you wish to enquire about a specific condition please get in touch with Teresa who can fully discuss this with you.
